Travel in Bansko, Bulgaria, part 2

December 2, 2006 on 1:22 am | In Travel outside of China, Bulgaria |

So we continue with the trip in Bansko. Once in the hotel (we stayed at the Kempinski on the outskirts of town) you are almost a stone throw away from a great mountain park. Here are some images to give you an idea about the location of the hotel:
Kempinski hotel Kempinski View from Kempinski view from the hotel towards the Pirin mountain. As you can tell the high peaks, skiing and hiking are all near by

If you leave from the hotel, turn right and head up the street you will encounter one of the many entrances to the mountain park. Drive or hike up the road and you will come to many beautiful ski lodges, hotels, and just wonderful nature. Here are some more photos:

Climb or drive up the road and you will find many places where you can park your car (if you drove) and from there embark on a hike for a few hours or a day. You will enjoy it.

  1. […] The hotel is one of the three Kempinski locations in Bulgaria. Last year we stayed in the Kempinski in Bansko (here is a link to my blog entry from last year). We were very happy with the hotel last year so, why not , we decided to be guests of the chain again….. […]

  2. Hi great blog we are particually interested in the car hire, my husband is a bit nervous about driving in a foreign country (we are from Australia) is there anything we should be aware of driving in Bulgaria? did you find it easy to find your way (we can only speak and read english)

  3. Hi Sally,
Bulgaria is now a much safer place to drive. Roads are much better marked (vs. several years ago) and there is a lot more law enforcement.

The roads are relatively well marked. You can get maps at many gas stations convenience stores. The maps also have English versions.

All in all I find it OK place to drive. Although I am used to driving in China (besides the US) which is a really NOT easy place to drive….So it is all relative I guess :-) Let me know if you have additional questions

  4. Is there a bus service between Bansko and Melnik. If yes long it takes?
    Thanks
