It never ceases to amaze me how much the People's Republic of China has changed since my wife and I experienced it in 1983.

There were no signs in english, no one except the very old and the college students spoke english.

We traveled on an individual visa and everywhere we went people would ask us where our tour guide was.

I must plan another trip but I'm sure I won't need the travel tips that I wrote for travelers back then.

Rickshaw, on Sanlitun South before Bookworm & Browns, also has free wi-fi. Open all day for food & drinks, but turns into a hopping bar at night.
