Starting information flow about Bulgaria as well
November 21, 2006 on 6:42 pm | In Bulgaria, Bulgaria tips and tricks |It is time to write a bit about my experiences (over the years) of visiting European destinations and especially Bulgaria. I have my connections with that country — I actually grew up there and left in 1987.
So, I will now start to include information on Bulgaria as well in my blog, plus add also entries about some other countries in the region — e.g. Macedonia, Greece.
Having spent a couple of weeks in Bulgaria this summer, I thought I should put some comments about real estate in the country. Recently there have been a number of write ups on blogs and on-line magazines about the market in Bulgaria. About the fact that you can find ultra cheap appartments and houses. Long story short, the ever lasting truth about real estate applies to Bulgaria as well. It is all about location. If you are trying to find a property in the “hot” areas of the Black Sea coast or mountain ski resorts like Borovetz, Pamporovo, Bansko, be prepared to shell out the big bucks….
If you are looking to buy in smaller towns and/or villages that are off the beaten track then you could find some less pricey options, but then you have to set your expectations right - I mean you will most likely NOT get a modern construction based house — but older, less kept, and potentially in bad need of repair dwelling. Furthermore you may want to consider buying a property for the sole purpose of buying the lot, and essentially getting ready to tear down the existing house.
I will write more on this in the next several postings. Please feel free to send me a comment and questions on what interests you about Bulgaria.
